Amazing Coffee

Coffee, a drink that is famous, delish and…                                                               Has the most interesting history in the world!?

But first we start with some basics, a coffee bean is soaked, dried, roasted and grinded to make coffee powder. The coffee bean has a red skin, something silver inside and inside that is a green hard shell and inside that is the brown bean!  Anyways on to history.                                                                                                 Yep , you heard that history lesson! So it all started when a Ethiopian shepherd named Khaldi saw his goats eating a red berry, a short while later his goat’s started becoming energetic, seem familiar yet, the red berry is the coffee beans skin and the energetic part is about the caffeine. Anyways Khaldi became curios and as you can imagine ate the bean, if you think about it that was kind of stupid, like what if it was harmful to humans, but stupid things aren't always bad, like minecraft creepers came from a coding bug, the microwave was invented by accident, and this one led to coffee.

So when he ate the bean the caffeine reacted making him very energetic. The local monks witnessed this and quickly started brewing the bean, creating coffee, they used this to keep them awake during long hours of prayers.

Some pilgrims decided to go to Yemen(600) and form a coffee monopoly there, but it was not successful. Instead there were many coffee shops equally famous, some smugglers from a british company brought some coffee beans to plant in India, and so India had coffee.

Coffee then got banned from Yemen because more people started talking about politics over coffee. And don’t get me wrong people still illegally drank coffee and the government still manufactured it to trade. Through this trade it came to Amsterdam(1640)(  the dutch encouraged the trade), it spread throughout Europe, in Switzerland Nestle started, and in Italy Espresso was invented. Back in India a Dutch merchant brought coffee to Java.Coffee was then brought to Haiti from Europe(1723), the places we have gone over so far are what make up the bean belt, the place where coffee plants thrive.

(1727) Coffee was introduced to Brazil which is also a part of the bean belt, it is also the largest coffee producer.Guess who Brazil sells their coffee to, the largest coffee consumer or the USA.

After the Boston Tea party(1773) to show a patriotic attitude they drank coffee instead.(1861)The union soldiers started drinking coffee in the civil war, not to show patriotic attitude but for many reasons.

After the 19th century America would consume half of the world's coffee. Coffee spread throughout the world and made everyone happy, so the next time you go to starbucks think about the long journey that cup of coffee had.
